The Ion Jalea Sculpture Museum was created in 1968 and it is hosted by a building, which was declared historical monument. The building was built between 1919 and 1920, in a neo-Romanian style and it was designed by architect Victor Stephanescu.

The museum owns 108 pieces of art, donated by Ion Jalea to the city of Constan?a.

Ion Jalea was one of the great Romanian sculptors. He was born in Dobruja and he was a member of the Romanian Academy, following an artistic activity of more than seven decades. After the World War I, the sculptor loses one of his hands and is constrained to work using only one hand.

Ion Jalea is the author of numerous monuments, statues, busts, landscapes and allegorical compositions.
