Corvin's Castle Hunedoara, the first stone fortification in Hunedoara, was dated by most of the researchers in the XIV-th century (Gheorghe Anghel), although there are specialists that say the royal fort dates from the first half of the XVth century (Elemér Mályusz, Adrian Andrei Rusu, Radu Lupescu).
The first fortification had an oval shape, with sharp north and south ends marked by the ashlar.
The walls, 2 meters thick, have been built from dolomitic limestone and river stone on their native rock.
Research prior to WWI, showed the fact that in the north area there were two triangle shaped halls, one of them probably being a keep with analogs in XIII-th - XIV-th century french and german areas.
