In 1914 the Water Castle was inaugurated, emblematic monument for the people in Severin, which gives the city identity even today, reigning over the new pedestrian thoroughfare.
The construction became a monument and has been given to the people of Severin by Carol I, the first king of Romania. It was rehabilitated and placed in the tourist circuit by Drobeta Turnu Severin City Hall through a project funded by IPA Program Romania – Serbia Republic.
The former water tower has now become a symbol, is visited daily by nearly 300 tourists, all interested in the spectacular panorama that it offers from behind the battlements.
