Within the Natural Sciences Museum Complex in Constanta, starting with the year 1985 a Micro-reservation entered the public circuit, spreading on a 6 ha surface out of which 2 ha represent luster water with a swamp vegetation. This objective was created with a view to offer the visitors a more complex image on the Dobrogea's nature.

The patrimony of this objective has the aquatic avifauna (pelicans, swans, ducks and wild geese), the terrestrial avifauna (peacocks, pheasants) and mammals (mouflons, fallow deer, harts), that can be found in the Danube Delta's Biosphere Reservation and the Negureni Reservation. Most part of these exemplars are natural monuments and rare species with a scarce representation in the natural biotopes. Some exemplars were obtained by exchange with the other Zoo Gardens and others were purchased or donated. Each year the reproduction and breeding in captivity of numerous exemplars belonging to a variety of species were realized (mouflons, fallow deer). In 2010 was brought from Dorici/Bulgaria a Mongolian horse Equus prijewalsky. Within the Micro-reservation can be found, in a special natural setting, a number of 46 species with more than 170 exemplars.

All these "guests" benefit from "accommodation spaces" according to the European standards, the present tendency being to eliminate the concrete platforms and surrounding metal bars. At the moment, this section is in full modernization and continuous activity of breeding and diversification of species. This natural setting is meant to become not only a worth visiting area, but also a relaxing and recreational one, for leisure time in a most educative and pleasant way.During the summer season, on the natural lake within the Micro-reservation the pelican colonies and gracefully floating swans can be admired. During the cold season, all the avifauna exemplars benefit from heated shelters.

Beside this recreation and relaxation aspect, also visits organized for the pupils and students take place in order to complete the information in biology with the help of our specialists' assistance. At the same time, the active commitmentin volunteering, enable the animal admirers to participate in their assisted feeding with the specific diet for each species. In this department has initiated a rescue center for housing and quarantine of the specimens made by individuals, especially in the cold season.
